ARCS Participates World Humanitarian Summit 2016 in Turkey

The first-ever World Humanitarian Summit is a global call to action by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon which will bring together governments, humanitarian organizations, people affected by humanitarian crises and new partners including the private sector to propose solutions to our most pressing challenges and set an agenda to keep humanitarian action fit for the future.
The Summit has three main goals:
• Reaffirm our commitment to humanity and humanitarian principles
• Initiate actions and commitments which enable countries and communities to prepare for and respond to crises and be more resilient to shocks.
• Share best practices which help save lives around the world, placing affected people at the center of humanitarian action and alleviating suffering.
Accordingly, on 12th April 2016, Turkish Red Crescent Society (TRCS) invited Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) to participate in the International RCRC Movement workshop. Thus, ARCS Secretary General’s Deputy, Dr. Mohammad NabiBorhan and International Relation and Dissemination Department Head, Mohammad Taib Yosufzai, as the leading committee members have participated the workshop with an aim to improve the International RCRC Movement’s effectiveness in the World Humanitarian Summit in coming month in Istanbul.
On the eve of the World Humanitarian Summit, the TRCS has managed the workshop where the delegates of more than hundred National Societies, IFRC, ICRC, leaders of Governments and international organizations gatheredto discuss some of the challenges in upholding humanitarian principles in today’s changing humanitarian landscape.
ARCS participants, on 13th April 2016, actively took part in discussions; In the side line of the workshop, the delegates met Turkish and Jordan Red Crescent NS presidents, Lebanese Red Cross and Bahrain National Society Secretary Generals, and Qatar and Australian International Relation directors who are ARCS donors with an aim to coordinate the ARCS donors meeting that is taking place in Doha capital of Qatar at the end of coming month.
It is considerable to mention that Turkish Red Crescent President appreciated ARCS participation and promised establishment of Turkish delegation in Afghanistan and further cooperation and collaboration in the field of quick respond capacity building.
Finally, the workshop was ended in 16 April.
